Gamlingay Rainbow Pre-school

GENERAL INFORMATION

The pre-school is currently run by Four members of staff who are trained in Child Care and Development to NVQ level three (2 members) and level 2 (2 members) respectively.  They are supported by two relief assistants.  All qualifications held by staff are fully OFSTED approved.  Our staff attend as many training courses as possible during the school year to ensure that their knowledge and skills are up to date.  Additionally, all staff, the Committee and regular helpers have all been subject to the required CRB checks.   All Staff are first aid trained.

We are open for five morning sessions - Monday to Friday 9.00-11.30am, five Lunch Clubs - Monday to Friday 11.30-12.30pm, and five afternoon sessions - Monday to Friday 12.30-3.00pm.  As Rainbow Pre-school is registered for all day childcare, it is possible for children to attend all day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday or Friday subject to availability. Friday afternoons are only offered for 8 spaces for funded children. The adult to child ratio is 1:4 for under 3years and 1:8 for over 3years.

During the summer term the children who are due to start school in the following September will undertake visits to their reception Class at Gamlingay First school.  These visits help to ensure a smooth transition to their new school as the children will have become familiar with their new class, teacher and class mates.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage ‘Areas of Learning and Development’, as detailed on page 13.  This framework sets the standards for development learning and care of children from birth to age 5 years.  We use a topic-based curriculum on subjects that children can relate to, such as 'growing' or, 'shapes and colours' and we aim to provide the resources and support so children can learn with challenges and enjoyment.

The majority of our materials and equipment are paid for by fundraising and social event.  It is therefore very important that these are well supported by all pre-school members. Our session fees are very competitive and it is free to register your child at Rainbow.

Our latest OFSTED report, Committee Meeting Minutes and Operational folder (contains policies and procedures) are by the main notice board for you to look through at any time. Details of our Term Dates and any events that are planned can be found on this website, which is also updated regularly with photos of the children's work for you, plus there is also an opportunity for you to give any comments or feedback via our on-line Guest Page.
